Here are some images I captured during the exhibition, "Chihuly In The Park: A Garden of Glass" featuring the art glass of Dale Chihuly, a noted American sculptor specializing in blown glass art. This exhibition was held in 2002 at the Garfield Park Conservatory in Chicago. Enjoy!

You're welcome! I will likely add more later as I get them properly sized for posting.

Two years ago I saw his work at Pepperdine University. Fabulous stuff, with amazing shapes and colors. Thanks for reminding me of a lovely afternoon.

Cool--more wicked-good pics from our future VBC contact at National Geographic! And maybe you could freelance on the side for Art in America with exhibition photos like these, John.

Did Chihuly create those sculptures for this venue specifically--some of them really look like that's the case--or did they take his pre-existing work and find an incredible venue for it? I'm trying to figure out which one I like the best, but I'm having trouble deciding. Maybe the large blue cup-shaped sculptures in the last set.

Re: the number of attachments--that's just the forum default. I think I can increase the number of attachments possible for each post. It might take a little longer for the posts to pop up, but it might be easier for those who want to post a series like this. Y'all want to see what happens when we bump it up to 10 or 15? If it slows things down a lot, we can always revert.

Dale Chihuly had visited Chicago during its Millenium celebration, had visited the Garfield Park Conservatory, and was inspired to use the conservatory as a setting for an exhibition. As a consequence, with the financial support of the Boeing Corp. he created these pieces specifically for the conservatory.

More pics to come (I just have to re-size them). Thanks for the kudos!

I thought the pieces all looked as if they were created especially for the setting. That's just a gorgeous exhibition--I feel lucky to get to "see" it through your camera lens, John. I'm going to show the pictures to my kids, too--they are both artistic and my little boy is dead-set to be an artist when he grows up. I think they'll both get a lot out of looking at all those wonderful creations.

This also reminds me of what a wonderful place Chicago is--great museums, architecture, centers of learning, journalism, public spaces and restaurants. And Oprah, too! What's not to like? :) I hope to get back there before too long. I last went to Chicago for BEA a few years ago and ate buffalo (it was fabulous, to my surprise) at a restaurant called Prairie, which was done up all Frank Lloyd Wrighty. Cool!

I'm glad that you're enjoying them, vicki, and thanks for the kind words about my home town!:)

I expect I'll have more Chicago photography to share down the pike. Here's some more Chihuly for now!
