I loved the story and was wondering if there will be a sequel?

Hi, doc! I love that book, too. I'm a sucker for dystopian lit and keep meaning to read The Road. I found a little bit on LRK's website here (http://laurierking.com/faqs.php#10a) where she says that she envisioned CD as part of a trilogy.
LRK said at one point (it may have been on the blog) that she wrote CD at least partly because she read The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood and it made her furious. I thought that was interesting, as I didn't have that reaction to THT, although it's not my favorite book or anything. It'll be fun to talk about it when we do the CD discussion.

Yes, I too hope that Califia's Daughter will turn out to be the first in a trilogy. Lots of lose ends I would like to see tied up, and characters I would like to see developed.

I was really intrigued to read that "Handmaid" was the initial inspiration for Califia's Daughers. Atwood's book didn't make me furious -- it scared the hell out of me. But I'm glad it made someone angry! Another interesting take on the same scenario is Suzette Elgin's "Native Tongue". In Elgin's book, alien races have discovered Earth and linguists become the dominant caste in society. Women are valued for their language skills and for producing offspring, but have no legal rights. A superficially passive response masks their truly subversive actions: the development of their own language. It's a good read and raises some really interesting issues. I think it's the first in a trilogy; one of these days I'll dig up the other books.

It would be great to see a follow-up; it was fun to see LRK stretch her writing chops in a different direction w/ CD. If she does a sequel I hope she drops the pseudonym and let the literary world give her credit for being multi-faceted!!

Yah, I'd prefer to see LRK's SF work under her own name, although I'm sure there are some good marketing reasons for using a pseudonym. I seem to recall that mystery author Anne Perry published an SF book under her own name, athough I haven't heard much good stuff about that one.
Atwood's book didn't make me furious -- it scared the hell out of me.
It kind of made me feel both ways.

I wrote a short note to LRK when I read CD several years ago, saying among other things that I hoped she would do a sequel.
She answered (yes she does -- just don't hold your breath) that the book was in fact an old work that had not been published when first written. And so the thread having been broken, she doubted she would ever do a sequel.

Hmm. It seems we have some conflicting information. Methinks this might be a good question to post in the Author's Study (http://laurierking.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=9). I'll go do that now.
