My daughter is a junior in high school this year. She's is taking a psychology course, and for said course she had to make a Me Bag. She had to put 10 things in the bag that represent who she is and what her life is like. Even the bag must tell something about her.

Since she works at Wendy's, she took a bag from there to represent her employment. In the bag she has all sorts of things that scream Caitlin--a guitar pick and an oboe reed to signify her love of playing music; a t-shirt that says Sarcasm, it beats killing people; copies of The Misspeller's Dictionary and English Grammar For Dummies (those are mine) to show how much she hates the misuse of the English language; and so on and so forth.

The really interesting part was the book she chose to illustrate her love of reading. She picked MREG. The kid has shelves mounted on her wall and two bookshelves in her room, and from all this bounty she chose MREG to represent her taste in reading material.

I just found that kinda neat and wanted to share. Proud Mama Moment. Just ignore me and carry on.

Looks like you have a lot to be proud about, Nikki.

Atta girl! She sounds like a great kid, Nikki--and she definitely has a great mom! I'll point this post out to Laurie--I think she'd enjoy seeing this.

I really like the whole "me bag" idea. I'm wondering what I'd put in my "me bag." A picture of my kids and of the extended family, for sure. Maybe some crochet and running socks. Something having to do with computers/internet, as I really love online research and communication. And probably the rest would be books. Pride and Prejudice, Little Women, BEEK (as it's what started me down the Russell-road) and I'd just get one or two more. Ouch, my brain can't decide on the rest!

I love that idea, we should all do virtual me bags :) My bag would be a National Trust bag, to represent my love of all the beautifulold buildings in England and how importand I think it is to conserve them, inside would be my dance shoes for my love of all things dance, my clarinet reed for all things musical, my Sherlock Holmes book my most favourite book in all the world and a map of the UK, to represent my love for my country and maybe some walking boots, because I like to ramble! :) I'd love to know what all your me bags would contain :) :)

I'd also like to see what others would put into their "me bags." I guess I should add that I could use my VBC-logo totebag as my me bag--it's very nice looking and I use it a lot to carry my books and crochet with me, so as to pull them out when I'm waiting during the kids' appointments, etc.

I think my me bag might frighten some people...especially those who get sqeamish quite easily. My me bag would be a body bag...need I say more? A smaller white one of course, not a blue tarpy one...

Hehehehe--that's funny! I think what you do is cool--I wouldn't be freaked out by your me bag. But I do wonder what you'd put in it! :D

I'm just now finding this for some odd reason. [shrug]

I don't know if anyone here would be too squeamish. Most of us are mothers, no? Mothers see every sort of putrid thing imaginable. At least I have.

Hmmm...interesting concept.

What I would put in my bag (my Elliot Bay book bag:)):
a tea bag
knitting needles
a book (either BEEk or HP:SS, toss up as they are both really dear to me)
a whisk
my calculator
the grip from my foil (because I doubt the whole thing would fit)
my photo album
a CD (either Jimmy Eat World or Weezer Green)
my laptop

I'm one short, but I don't know what that last one would be. Probably something for my bike, like the headlight or something.

:D That's why moms are so cool...well at least cool moms.

So yes...my me bag would be a body bag with these items
1 complete copy of the canon
1 copy of MOOR
1 dell laptop
calipers (may need to do a 911 measure)
1 Identification of Pathological Conditions in the Human Skeleton
1 Aston Martin model (I love fast cars)
1 box of Deejarling Tea
1 ipod packed with Peter Gabriel, Genesis, Simon Collins, Phil Collins, KMFDM, Cream, the Who, and NIN songs
1 skull for reference
1 said husband (we'll find away to get him in the bag...If I can get a 5'8 280lb man in the same bag, hubby shouldn't be a problem)

Bonus...if extra item is allowed and fits
1 fender stratocaster

Oh yes and the peppermint oil and charcoal activated masks are in my cargo pockets :-P

*grins* Have you heard the string quartet rendition of Smells Like Teen Spirit?

indeed I have and I love it :D! I'm known for my eclectic taste in music. My husband can't comprehend how I go from Paganini to NIN in one turn...then to Johnny Cash....

It has taken me quite a while to think this one through. I stumbled at what the bag would be but finally it came to me it would have to be a roll-on suitcase. I love to travel and have really indulged that love this year.

Inside I would place:

The studio portrait of my husband and son they had done on the QT as a Christmas surprise for me.
A cell phone so I can keep in touch with family and friends in real time
My laptop to write, sent email, and visit my favorite websites
An Internet connection (see above)
The thumb drive on which I store all my stories, flashes, vignettes and drabbles.
My copy of the complete Canon
My copies of the complete Kanon on tape
My cassette player (I know it is old school but until all 8 of the Russell books are downloadable I'm not converting)
My business card
The current book I am reading, which will be Touchstone as soon as it arrives.

SC you can actually, if you have the technology (a simple little cable and an input jack on your sound card) record your Russell books to your computer via your cassette player and then convert them to MP3. I did. Yes...I must hear Holmes occasionally and I love the way he sounds (hey even if it is Jenny Sterlin) at the end of MONST. Oooo that reminds me...*runs and uploads Jeremy Brett's musicals to ipod* Ah...now we're set for the bag...Brett and Merrison in, right next to the Russell's. Ahhhhh.....*hums Love Unspoken*

I must have these ON DEMAND! I never know when I'll need a hit of Brett or Holmes or Merrison...the cravings come at odd times I tell you...
