I'm truly in awe of those who can sew well. I almost flunked home ec the semester we sewed a piece of clothing (skirted jumper, Butterick pattern, 11 pieces--each one a horrible, twisty, turny, frazzled-around-the-edges instrument of mental and physical torture) and was saved only by my grandmother's alarmed intervention at the end of the semester. Even she couldn't pull it into something presentable after I'd botched it to smithereens. :( I think I'd have had an easier time of it if they'd just handed me a roll of tin foil and told me to go build a working space shuttle before school let out for Christmas. I'm better off just sticking to crochet.

Yes, I am the elf and no, the girl in the picture is not the Grammar Goddess. The girl is actually the bride (Let's hope the Goddess isn't getting married; she's only 16. I know we live in WV and all, but still...;)).

I'm remaking a dress for Caitlin to wear to the wedding this weekend. She's a little camera shy, but I'll try to take a picture and post it so you can put a face to the name.

My mom taught all the girls in our family to sew. The three older sisters don't go near a sewing machine if they can help it. I have made a living sewing on more than one occasion. Who knows why some people take to it and others want to pull out their hair. When I had my shop, there were a few people who even brought in buttons to be sewn on because they couldn't do it themselves.

That dress is bee-you-tiful! Elegant, lovely, and I'm so impressed you MADE it! I'm with Vicki in the sewing - couldn't make a wrap-around skirt in home ec! Hand sewing I can do, but there is something about the machine . . . maybe I have secret Luddite tendencies ;).
