Have y'all seen this cool list on The Rap Sheet (http://therapsheet.blogspot.com/) blog? It's a list of “most unjustly overlooked, criminally forgotten, or underappreciated over the years.” (http://therapsheet.blogspot.com/2007/05/ones-that-got-away.html) I don't think I've read a single one of them, other than LRK's A Darker Place (http://laurierking.com/darker_place.php), although I do have a copy of A Franchise Affair by Josephine Tey that I've never read. It really does seem like ADP gets less attention than the other LRK books, but it's a really fine book.

I saw a discussion of this list where several people also mentioned Some Deaths Before Dying by the great Peter Dickinson (http://www.peterdickinson.com/) (aka Mr. Robin McKinley (http://www.robinmckinley.com/Index2.html#Cover)), one of LRK's favorite mystery writers (http://laurierking.com/whateverwriters.php). I'd agree with adding SBDB to the list; it blew me away. A description of the book is on this page (http://www.peterdickinson.com/Biblio_A.html) from PD's website. fyi.

I read the list. I wouldn't think "The Manchurian Candidate" had been overlooked! Man, the thing's a classic.

"Caves of Steel." Right on!

"Caves of Steel." Right on!

And "Night of the Jabberwock" by Fredric Brown, another classic by a writer usually associated w/ science fiction!

John.

Okay, I'm taking notes here. I always love to find an overlooked book, mystery or not.

One of my favorite overlooked books (though it's not a mystery) is the absolutely hilarious Night of the Avenging Blowfish by John Welter. Don't read it unless you really like to laugh.
