I have just been writing about the aftermath of a blizzard. My poor wimpy California-self would die in weather like that. It really stretched my imagination to conjure up the images you have just posted. Thanks, the shots are chilling...but beautiful.

Those are some great pictures! I especially like the windchimes! I love looking at snow...from inside by a nice warm fire! :-D

Beautiful pictures, Sheri! I'm impressed with the scenery and your ability to capture it. The windchimes really *are* a lovely detail there. I just goggle at that kind of snow--we are lucky to get a light dusting once every three or four years. But I've been in Alabama too long--I just suffer when the temperature drops below the high forties. I tend to stand on heating vents a lot from December to March. :)

Yep, that would be me, as well. I'd probably run out on the front porch, all bundled up, get a good look around for about 10 seconds and then run back inside to stand on a heating vent for the rest of the day. </wimp>
Crikey, I'm sorry about that poor woman and the kids left behind. She surely shouldn't have been out in it, but there's no telling what happened before she made that decision. Here, if any snow starts to stick to the roads, they close down everything but the hospitals and tv/radio stations, and everyone huddles inside in front of the TV or fireplace, guzzling cocoa and soup like they're in the middle of the Klondike, even if the temperature is barely below freezing.

I wasn't able to get near enough (without scaring him away) for a good shot, but here is our state bird in our hawthorn bushes. I will be hunting him with my camera this winter.

It's been in the 20's lately so the snow has been sticking around, but they're expecting 40's and some rain the next few days so we may lose our snow cover before Christmas. I'm like you; I would rather the temps stay cold and keep the snow till spring. I really hate the cold sleety, slushy stuff! However, if I have learned anything in my 56 years, it's that my weather wishes and the actual weather aren't often congruent!:). Stay warm!

Wow! That is beautiful! I don't think I've ever seen a bird that color before.

That is gorgeous John! When I was younger that was my favorite bird! My grandfather was a very active member of the Audobon society and would catch and band birds and track their migration when other banded birds were caught.

Thank you! The cardinal is one of my favorite birds to watch and listen to their song. I took that photo from about 100 ft. away; it was spooking if I got any nearer. They stand out so nicely during the winter I will be keeping my camera at the ready to try to sneak up for a better shot!

I think it's a great shot with the red berries, bare branches, snow and the beautiful cardinal.

Just seen your photos of the snow - it looks lovely. We so rarely have snow here (south England) that my children have only seen it 3 or 4 times in their life. But don't we make the most of it when it does come!
Take care all of those who are having some serious weather.

My family has been wishing for a dusting of snow all this week (they live just north of Seattle, WA) and I found that rather amusing given the direct contrast to all the talk of heavy snow and blizzards and storms here(may you all have a safe holiday with plenty of warm drinks and blankets and properly working heaters). We probably should be grateful for the warmer weather rather than bummed about missing out on the snow...

Growing up in Chicago, having a white Christmas was iconic, it just didn't feel right when there wasn't any snow. Yesterday, the temp got to 49 degrees and all the snow melted. Today the high temp will be about 16 degrees and we woke up to a nice dusting of white; it doesn't matter to me whether it's 1/2 inch or 20 inches, I love my snow for Christmas!!! (and it doesn't look as if we will be fighting any weather on the way to Ohio on Christmas Day; a bonus!)

P.S. Tangential1: how is the snowpack in the Sierra Nevada so far this year?

We got our wish! My first ever white Christmas:D We noticed tiny snowflakes starting to fall just after 10am (as we were finishing up with gifts and starting breakfast) and by 1pm we had a nice little layer of snow covering everything. It was so beautiful!:)

So far as I know they had about 40", but nothing new for a few weeks. There should some new weather coming in this week, though, according to the reports. Time to break out the snow chains and brave the 2 hours of mountain roads (not to mention the other travelers) to go tubing!!!
