Hi all,
I've just started a new job at Staffordshire archives and I thought as a training exercise I would post this, I thought to get me used to the way the archives works I'd ask if anyone has any history queries, or heard of a person they don't know anything of, or any other historical query that I could maybe look up for you and give a bit of background...just a thought...if you want to take me up on it let me know :)

My maternal Grandfather’s last name was Friend. Once my grandmother got a letter requesting information to determine if he was a descendant of a crested family in England. To the best of my knowledge she was never contacted again. Can you find any information &/or family tree of the FRIEND family?

I don't know if you have any access to Irish genealogical info, Amy, but my mother's maternal grandmother, Mary Mathey, was born in Ireland (I don't know which county) probably in the 1870's. It's a long shot, but any information would be appreciated. Thanks!:)

John.

Great idea AmyLizzy! You're awesome.

Any historical notes on activities of the clan Riddle or Riddell in the vicinity of Yorkshire? My dh's ancestors are from the Scottish side of the line. I talked to a guy from the English side several years ago. He apparently still held a grudge.:D

Hello AmyLizzie
I thought it was a good idea of yours to offer. I'm originally from Northamptonshire (currently in exile in Bedfordshire) and I'm cringing at most of the accents in Lark Rise to Candleford, a terrible mish-mash, although credit to Ma & Pa & Queenie (spookily like my great-gran who was a contemporary of Flora Thompson).
Anyway - Northamptonshire authors aside from Flora? Colin Dexter did live in Corby for awhile I believe, and the potential conservative candidate or that seat is Fiona Matthews (I think - chick-lit author), but I don't think she lives there. There was a detective author called Wren from Wellingborough.
I am in no hurry for the info, and it is an idle query, so no worry if you are busy.
Thanks!
