Thanks for sharing, Sheri! I'm glad you got the chance to see and photograph the eclipse! You can even dimly see Saturn off to the left and Regulus above the moon!

Don't worry, Sheri, I'm sure you will see the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) again from your area. The north magnetic pole isn't moving away from you nearly fast enough to affect how far south the aurora are visible, in fact a couple of my co-workers that live in semi-rural areas with dark skies saw the aurora last summer here in Illinois. It's the sunspot activity of the sun, and the amount of charged particles that the sun sends our way interacting with the earth's magnetosphere that produces the aurora, so where and when and how bright the aurora are depends primarily on the solar activity and the time of year (our planet's orientation toward the sun). Probably more information than you ever wanted; just my inner teacher slipping out a bit!:)

I feel badly about not getting any photos of last night's beautiful eclipse but I did find some shots from the October 2004 total eclipse. You have to excuse me; I'm such a space geek!!!:)

Oooh--lovely pictures! Thanks so much for posting!

We so enjoyed watching the eclipse through DS's binoculars--especially seeing Saturn and Regulus pop out as the moon darkened. <Sits down on space-geek bench next to John, waves pennant> :)

We're either getting old or married too long, when a nice summers evening entertainment is the stars and a bottle of wine.

That sounds like primo entertainment to me, too! Does that qualify us as space-geezers?

Nice pictures, thanks for sharing, We’ve been treated to the Aurora Borealis here in MT, but nothing like the dancing you can see from Alaska.
