Last night Ms. King and three other authors gathered at UCLA for a showing of a film called, "Mysterious California," in which they were all featured. From her blog, Ms. King explains:
“Mysterious California: Four Authors” is the film that explores how four California mystery writers build their fictional worlds around the physical and social landscape that is California. I’ve mentioned this film before, and the 40 minute dvd you can buy [http://calbook.org/bcb/mysterious.html ] in which Nadia Gordon, Nina Revoyr, Kirk Russell, and LRK talk about the element of place in our writing.
After the film there was a brief Q & A then a reception in the foyer of the theater. I was lucky enough to have a chat with Les Klinger and to exchange a few words with Ms. King. It was a lovely evening.
The first picture shows the panel with the film makers, Bill McDonald and Pamela Briggs (husband and wife), then Nina Revoyr, Ms. King, Nadia Gordon, Kirk Russell, the film editor and the two people who wrote and played all the original music for the movie. I'm sorry I didn't note their names. Next is a shot of Les Klinger, he and I had a chat before the movie, then Ms. King and Mr. Klinger, finally a group shot of everyone involved in the movie.

Nice job, Alice! I'm jealous! Thanks again for great reportage; almost as good as being there!

Great report and pics, Alice! Consider your stalking duties taken care of for the spring. :DThanks, Nikki. I will need to rest up after last night. My drive to UCLA, for the 7:30 showing, was a bit over 2 hrs. My drive home 40 minutes. My day started at 5:30AM and ended when I walked into my home at 10:35PM. In between I worked, took my mother to the doctor, did her grocery shopping and fought horrible rush hour traffic. As Holmes would say, "I'm getting too old for this."

John. Thanks, John. Les Klinger asked where my correspondent badge was and another VBC member, Meredith, piped up, "It's virtual," the best line of the night. IMHO.

Another excellent job from our roving reporter. What a shame you hadn't had time to prepare a sock to take with you!
Many thanks SC for going, and giving your time to share with us.

Another excellent job from our roving reporter. What a shame you hadn't had time to prepare a sock to take with you! Ruthie I'm not very adept at crafty things. I can't knit and had I shown up with a handmade sock puppet I'm afraid I would have been escorted quickly from the building. LOL

This makes me sad that Ohio is just so far from such fun literary parties.... Thanks for letting us geographically-challenged enjoy the LRK-ness vicariously!

I'm please you have all enjoyed the pictures and my little piece. I certainly enjoyed the evening, even with the horrid rush hour drive up the 405 freeway to attend.

Alice, you get a *big* VBC commendation for being our eyes and ears at the showing, especially after a very full day and in the face of LA's infamous rush hour traffic! The concept of a trip across town taking 2 hours--rush hour or not--makes my head hurt. I think I'll just continue to live here in the sticks, thankee. :) And I'll echo the kudos for your reportage--your pictures and description make me feel like I was a part of it. I really like the Correspondent's Badge idea, btw. Maybe we need some VBC Press Corps items for B'con this year. Hmmmm. <Writes it down on thinking list>
I'm glad you and Meredith were also able to chat with Les K. I met him at Bouchercon last year and he's a good guy, and very smart (even if he *does* think Gaudy Night is a girlie book <narrows eyes momentarily>. It is not a girlie book. It is a humanie book).

Hi, all. Well, Vicki, we will have to have a few words with Les, girlie book indeed! humph! O, thank you, thank you re my saying "it's virtual." I actually got pink in the cheeks sitting here reading that feedback. It was a splendid evening, I have to say. (and you know what's scarey...I have no memory of piping up with Anything. sigh) --Meredith

Good to hear from you again. Alice :)
