This is one of the coolest NY Times stories I've seen in a while:

Mystery on Fifth Avenue (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/12/garden/12puzzle.html?ex=1213934400&en=731168178e2c5e3a&ei=5070)

Great story, and wow what a condo! The puzzles are a little to tedious for my taste, but the whole project was a wonderful gift and certainly well planned and constructed. Oh, to have $$$$$! (we need a dreaming smilely)!

Dude! That's too cool. Good thing they knew who to call for clues. I probably would have quit after the first few without some help, personally.

I'm so pathetic at puzzle- or mystery-solving. I'd have been like the people who bought their old condo and said--"Here's this thing of yours--you'll never guess where we found it!" I might have even written off the first message as a crank and thrown it in the garbage.

Oh come on as mystery readers, I know there is a little more of the thrill of discovery in you.

I once found a small access panel at the back of a closet in a house we just bought and was so excited,

Opened it and there was this craw space and a can was in there, the excitement mounted.

It was one of those cans you have to open with a screwdriver (like a paint can, but smaller).

Opened the can and ….

................................…… nothing, it was empty!

I was soooooo disappointed!!!

When we moved and sold that house I hid a little treasure in there for the new owners to find. Nothing very valuable, just a little delight (don’t even remember what it was).

What can I say, I'm easily discouraged. One of the Harry Potter sites had an online puzzle thing going on a couple of months back and I got really excited and into it for maybe a couple hours. Then, as the puzzles kept going and frustration mounted, I got annoyed with the whole thing and found something else to do.

Dude...that had to be way disappointing, Bachi. :( I wonder if the new homeowner has found that tin yet...

I would have loved something like that as a kid. I was forever searching for hidden compartments and secret letters behind pictures. I must have seemed like a child-sized tornado at times to my parents. I don't think they ever realized what I was really up to. Thankfully dd is more interested in catching animals (fish and salamandars are the latest) and making houses for the fairies that live in the yard (did you know that mayapple forests are where they have their dances?;)) than tearing things apart looking for secret hiding places.

Did anyone else miss the slideshow (http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2008/06/11/garden/0612-PUZZLE_index.html) of the apartment attached to this story? Someone at work emailed me the link (coincidentally, since I hadn't shared the story with him), which made the whole story that much cooler:)

I somehow managed to see them (although how I could not say) and made sure to call specific attentio to it when I forwarded the link.

Thx again Vicki, I don't know how you catch as many interesting things as you do, raise a family, etc., etc., etc. you truly earn the super cape, over and over again!!! :D

Ahh! This is really neat! ^-^ I think if I'd lived there as a child, I'd never want to leave.

It actually reminds me of something I did this last weekend. A friend took me out to hunt down some geo caches. *grins* I've always loved clue trails and treasure hunts. ^-^
