Hi All we are looking good...I think I've mentioned before in Laurie's blog commets that I am a cast iron frying pan kind of girl, so I'm likely to get this in a bit of a twist before I get the hang. I am as one wiht Laurie and her foibles for internet snafues.

Let's see I have a BA in Sociology from San Francisco State U and I have done everything from being a hippie in the 60ies (oh we ladies of a certain age) to my latest career of Death Penalty Mitigation Specialist. In between raised a fine son who is a fireman paramedic for the city of Napa. My partner and I (Ellen) of 24 years are headed even further into the desert. We currently live in Santa Fe, NM and are Tucson, AZ bound...to follow above said career and then the partner gets to at long last work from home.

My intro to Laurie was A Grave Talent, which I count amoung one of the best books ever written. I also particularily enjoy To Play The Fool.

Well that'll do pig as we fans of Charolettes Web say...

Welcome, M. Diane! We have several other desert-dwellers hereabout, including some from Tuscon, as I recall.

No worries--you'll get it figured out in no time. It just takes a bit of exploring and trying things out.

What does death penalty mitigation entail? I spent a couple of years reviewing death penalty petitions in the federal courts, and there was a lot of eye-opening stuff in those files. It was interesting stuff, but I was glad to move into a job that didn't focus solely on those petitions.

We'll look forward to seeing you in this month's club discussion (http://laurierking.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=9), which LRK will soon be visiting. The Beekeeper's Apprentice is the club discussion for July, and then we'll discuss To Play the Fool in August. When you get a chance, come by the LRK Reading Room (http://laurierking.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=4) to talk about LRK's books, and by The Great Room (http://laurierking.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=8) to tell us about your favorite books and movies, and anything else that occurs to you. Or if you have a question for LRK, you can leave it in The Author's Study (http://laurierking.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=17).

Hi Diane! I'm a fellow Tucsonan, having gone to the UA way back in the 70s, moved away for a bit, but have been back since 1991 -- definitely home for me! I hope you find Tucson as welcoming and enjoyable as I do. Let me know if you have questions!

thanks for the welcome and would love to keep chatting about Tucson. We have visited several times and are moving for the work, the climate, the lack of allergins (compared to Northern, NM) and for cost of living...not to mention the truly friendly folks.

I just realized maybe this should go in that private message thingie, but I don't know how to use it yet.

Let's stay in touch.

Marcia

Wow, I love all the desert rats!!! My Saturdays are usually pretty well booked up, but the next time I'm off, I'll stop by!

please do...

i work Monday nights as well. right now standing in the kitchen of the coffee shop, looking eagerly at the front door for a customer.

alas, when it is 105 degrees out (and counting) folks who have decided to brave the tucson summer don't remove themselves from the air conditioning very often.

hell, i'd be home in mine right now...

thanks spiston! it's good to know there would be a friendly face there! of course, monday nights are also bad for me in the summer -- always have either a soccer game to play or to ref... but hopefully my schedule will lighten up in the fall and i can swing by! it'd be great to meet a fellow lrk fan!
