Alright, we did Harry Potter...
I think Holmes would be Númenórean. How else explain the age difference?
And Russell then would have to be an Elf. Would make the most sense, I don't see her as human.
Mycroft, an Ent.
Tee hee. Silly, but fun.

I would envision Russell as half-elven, living quietly in Rivendell, until Holmes came into her life! And Watson, definitely a hobbit! :)
As a long-time Tolkien junkie, however, my hero is Gandalf!!! :) :)

Holmes would definitely have been kin to Gandalf, but I agree that Watson is positively Hobbitish. Russell reminds me more of Galadriel, in physical type, strength of character, and nobility of spirit.
Mycroft, now... Hobbitish in his habits, wizardlike in his knowledge, Entish in his protection of his Home... I really don't know!

Hmm . . . I can see Russell as totally human -- either as a handmaiden of the Rohirim (sp?) or of Gondor. I don't think of her as really other-worldly (which is how I think of elves), so much as very special. I could easily see her as a kindred spirit to both Arwhen and Erowen (I'm sure I'm mangling these spellings), but more like the latter than the former. Except that I'm pretty sure she'd have found a way to ditch the other women and children at Helm's Deep to fight with the men ;) .
Holmes I see as more wizard-ish, for sure.
