I just finished re-reading BEEK and MREG and noticed that Russell is a Capricorn. That's what I guessed, anyway, as she turns 21 shortly after Christmas but not so deep into January. It fits with what I know of Caps and it does so well that it is hard for me to imagine it a coincidence. It made me wonder what sign Holmes is...does anyone know? I imagine he might bristle at astrology and might be one of those people who say "I don't have a sign," when asked. So frustrating.
Also, it might be fun to do some statistical analysis of the astrological signs of folk in the book group. Do we lean towards fire? Air?

I cannot imagine that someone has not done an astrological chart for Holmes in all these years. I hope you find it. I am very curious to see what it will show. Christina

Interesting. I remember reading somewhere that Holmes' birthday is in January, though the exact date eludes my memory. The 5th or 6th is, I believe, what the Holmesian scholars say. That leaves him in Capricorn as well, I believe. At least, under the same zodiac system that gives Russell Capricorn status.
that's about all I know. I just looked it up a few seconds ago; I actually didn't know what I was until a few moments ago.
Oh, and I'm a capricorn as well.

I'm a Taurus, which suits me well, as I can be extremely bull-headed.

Hmmm. Both Capricorn? Interesting.
It totally works (copied from some website) -- "The swings in mood are not the only reason some Capricornians deserve the adjective based on their name - capricious. They can be surprisingly and suddenly witty and subtle for the quiet, reserved individuals they seem to be, and they also have a tendency to ruin things by unexpected and utterly irresponsible bouts of flippancy. In certain individuals in whom the characteristic is strong, the temptation to do this has to be resisted with iron self-control.
Their intellects are sometimes very subtle. They think profoundly and deeply, throughly exploring all possibilities before deciding on a 'safe' alternative. They have good memories and an insatiable yet methodical desire for knowledge. They are rational, logical and clearheaded, have good concentration, delight in debate in which they can show off their cleverness by luring their adversaries into traps and confounding them with logic."
I'm going to do whatever research I can to search for Holmes and if I can't find one, make a chart...and of course post the outcome. I have found that, although by no means an absolute determinant of personality or limitations, there are *things* about people in relation to their birth, astrologically speaking. Sometimes the patterns surprise me, right down to the soles of my feet.
Christina, your sign?
So far:
Capricorn - 1
Taurus - 1
Sagittarius - 1 (uh, that's me - forgot to add that earlier)
Not enough data yet obviously for the proposed statistical analysis yet...

I'm a Virgo, for your stats. As a scientist, however, I have to tell you that I believe any correlations between astrological signs and personality traits are purely coincidental! Don't yell at me too vociferously! :)
On the other hand, I will not rain on the parade of anyone who finds this topic entertaining, interesting, or even believable!
Yours truly!

Gemini here and it definately fits! Good luck with your quest! I remember reading somewhere that Holmes' birthday somehow correlates with Twelfth Night. Hope that helps!

I'm Libra and according to all the stuff I've read it suits me perfectly (romantic, a poet, an artist, very moody). Actually I'm turning so much to romantic stuff that I can find stuff to go awwww even in novels/movies that for average people do not contain such theme at all :p

The internet is so much fun! I checked http://www.alabe.com/freechart/ for details of my chart that I had forgotten. I know I'm a Pisces and do think some of those characteristics definitely apply to me: I'm emotional, somewhat mercurial, empathetic, etc. I have Capricorn rising, which also seems pretty consistent: I'm quietly ambitious in my own way, respect the success of others, and am uber-responsible (but I'm getting better ;) ). My moon sign is Aries, and I am, indeed, a fighter when my emotions (especially my sense of justice) are aroused. I am most emphatically not, however, impulsive, reckless, foolhardy, daring, or irresponsible!

The most beautiful and most profound religious emotion that we can experience is the sensation of the mystical. And this mysticality is the power of all true science. If there is any such concept as a God, it is a subtle spirit, not an image of a man that so many have fixed in their minds. In essence, my religion consists of a humble admiration for this illimitable superior spirit that reveals itself in the slight details that we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble minds.

Okay so far the totals:
Earth:
Capricorn - 2
Taurus - 1
Virgo - 1
Air:
Libra - 1
Gemini - 2
Water:
Picses - 1

Not enough to go on yet but we're getting somewhere. Thanks for participating thus far in my curiosities.
Off-topic, a friend and I were having a Harry Potter conversation and we decided that Gryffindor was a Fire sign, Hufflepuff = Air, Ravenclaw=Earth, and Slytherin = Water.

OK, now this really is silly good fun. My partner, Ellen is an Astrologer extronaire and so has filled my days and nights with star talk.
John, tho not to be proven, a bit like is there a God, Astrology is a fascinating science. Yes, I will call it a science. My girl sits up nights reading numbers from her ephemeris an essential part of understanding Astrology/Astronomy. An then spouts out these bits of knowing that are as astounding as they are useful.
We are terribly excited about moving to Tucson as the star gazing bidness is alive and quite well there...Staraziona being our current favorite.
We are working even now on setting up a digital remote star gazing station on our ranch here in NM (also very dark especially winter skies) and before you all pounce on me I DO know that there is a difference between Astronomy and Astronomy. But they are twin sisters I believe.
Then there is the Great Star Nation of Native American Mythology...flung there by that silly fellow Coyote.
Taurus here, carry on!

I was just wondering, does it make a difference if I was born about three weeks early? I was actually supposed to be born in early February, which would have made me an aquarius. Does that change my place in the whole scheme of astrology?
Did I just not want to be an aquarius? Interesting, though, because according to my research online (yes, I have been reading a few articles) I seem to follow aquarius more than capricorn, and even then I fit only some of it.
I guess I'm just the odd ball out!

Hmmm. That's an interesting idea--that modern medicine might leave you stuck with the wrong sign. If your mom's obstetrician schedules her for a "38 special" (labor-induction at 38 weeks), it's quite possible that you end up arriving in the world 1-3 weeks earlier than you would have without the assistance of modern technology. So what effect would that have on your sign?

I'm jealous of your clear, dark skies; it's not something that we have very often near Chicago. I fondly recall lying out at night in the heights of the Sierra Nevada during backpacking trips picking out my favorite constellations and asterisms from the almost overwhelming preponderance of visible inter-galactic space! Great memories!! :)

I like the idea of Astrology and Astronomy as twin sisters, but I would take it one step further. I'd say Astrology was art to Astronomy's science. The former deals in exploring and conveying intangibles in tangible ways; in matters of mind, spirit, and heart. The latter is about explaining natural phenomena in specific and circumscribed ways. It's no less creative and magical, but it is different in its scope and methods.
So rather than being identical twins, the two are fraternal twins, yin and yang to one another. At least, that's how I'm thinking about them right now in a slightly coffee-deprived state ;) .

This is starting to sound like the answers to my kids' questions about evolution, the Big Bang and where does God and the Creation fit in. Truths exist in the myths we tell each other, perhaps deeper truths than the ones we find in science. . .
Does that sound like a Taurus? 'cause I am.

As I was posting to another thread I saw this and decided to jump into the pond, so to speak. I'm a Cancer - Water sign which it appears are few and far between here.
I take the whole astrology as a science thing with a grain of salt. It is interesting to see how much of yourself you can find when you have a chart done. BTW thanks for that link to the free chart. I used it to see a more in-depth reading of my "stars" and it nailed most of my personality traits. So...I find it all interesting but wouldn't use it to make any of my life decisions.

Actually, I have no idea whether mine was scheduled or an emergency; I'm adopted. I was born in South Korea and have no specific health history or birth data; I'm rather at a loss on this one.
If it was induced, I suppose I would lean more towards the aquarius side of me. If it was natural, I suppose I just wanted to be a capricorn, though I hold very few of those traits.
Or perhaps I was just bored in the womb!

I have a girlfriend who is a most wonderful numerologist, she's just incredible! I tell folks she does numerology as a performance art! Anyway, in her paradigm, changing your name changes qualities about yourself.... sometimes drastically. I don't have personal experience confirming this, but I do have faith in my friend as well as training and belief in other modalities that I feel confirms this also. So, I am inclined to think that when you were actually born is much more important than when you were "supposed" to be born. After all, how do we know that induction was not a part of your life-plan prior to birth?

I'm a Sagitarius and while I don't follow astrology or my horoscope I have always found it a bit eirie how the more specific a prediction is for Sagitarius is the more accurate it seems to be for me.
When I visit Japan I alway pull a fortune from a shrine and it's always the same basic fortune. Moderatly good luck, life is like a river it has it's ups and downs ride them out instead of standing in their way and you will have a good life.
