Just a couple quick photos taken about 7:20 am today as I arrived at work (Naperville, IL); sunrise over the snowy fields, and the waning gibbous moon high in the sky! (all at -25 degrees F.)

John,
That sunrise is breath taking. Looking at it is a religious experience for me.

As usual John, they are beautiful photos! Living here in the sub-tropics I can't even begin to imagine how cold you must be...wrap up warm, and get some of Vicki's rice socks!

Sunrise with snow on the ground is so lovely - the subtle play of the purples, lavenders and blues of the snow without the sunlight with the contrasting pink and peaches where the newly risen sun is striking. I've been trying to appreciate this these cold mornings at the bus stop with the kids. And I agree, Pat, it is a religious experience. You have captured it very, very well John.

Thank you, Pat, Millie, and Karen! The one advantage of reeaalllllly cold weather is that it usually requires clear skies, which are generally quite crisp due to most of the air moisture ending up on the ground:)! I try to carry a camera around just for photo ops like these. And re: your comments (without trying to be preachy), I tend to see my Creator in God's creations; the mind-boggling complexity and beauty of earth, sky, and creatures! Glad you enjoyed them; that's why I put them up.

Thanks for sharing these marvelous pictures, John. This is exactly how I wish to experience that type of cold...in a picture. I'm a California wimp, I'd die in that type of weather. LOL The pictures really are glorious and how great that you carry a camera so we can all share in the beauty you see in the world. --Alice

You're welcome, Alice, and don't feel like a wimp; even I was chilly that morning:)!!

They are both beautiful John! I especially like the moon one. I always think of how surreal but awesome it is to see the moon during the daytime. And I agree with you about seeing the Creator in the creation...though right now I really wish God would put us back in the 30s somewhere! :) -Meags
