Publisher's Weekly has a fun Harry Potter news article--lookee! (http://www.publishersweekly.com/article/CA6454229.html?nid=2788)

Think Harry's demise in Book 7 is a sure thing? Don't bet on it. Well, actually, you can't bet on it—at least not with any London bookies. London bettors are so sure that Harry's a goner, that local bookmakers no longer take wagers on the boy-wizard's fate. "Every penny was on Harry dying, and it became untenable," Rupert Adams, spokesman for London bookmaker William Hill told the press.

Maybe a bit down, but not out, Hill has found a way to keep things interesting, and also be enterprising. He has shifted the betting to Harry's possible killers. Villain Lord Voldemort has odds of 2-1 and man-of-questionable loyalty Professor Snape comes in a 5-2.

Nooooooo! <Sobs>

Nooooooo! <Sobs>

I suspect the ending will indeed be a tear-jerker, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if JKR throws us a few curveballs!! I have been very impressed by her willingness to let the story take us where it will, and make no compromises. It should be awesome! In our family of four there will be four copies of the book so we can discuss it asap!

I so hope Harry dies...he's just so pathetic. Now, dear Sevie on the other hand...*glares at would be Severus killers*...JKR had better not kill Severus, or she's gonna have a lot of angry fans on her hands...the Severus fans, of course :P . I am eagerly awaiting the book :D Can't wait...but have to.

I do believe it is time for Harry's heroic death...though it would be rather amusing if he didn't die a heroic death but actually died of some strange freaky accident towards the middle of the book! Of course this would leave too many loose strings, but it would be amusing if she could pull it off!

And as to Severus...half my friends think he's good, half think he's evil. So which is it? I personally think he just did what he had to do at the end of the 6th book. Anyway, Rowling left the ending rather ambiguous when it came to Snape's escaping from the grounds. Harry takes too much for granted in that scene.

That's my thoughts. But then again, I haven't read the 6th book in a looong time!

*giggles* That would be funny, but it would never happen :(

And, I think Severus is Severus...there is no good or evil when it comes to him :P

Are y'all going to the bookstore parties the night before to get your books at midnight?
My friends and I are going to go bookstore-hopping that night. :)

Yeah, I'm also going to dress as Snape.

It's a long story, but a friend of mine is in a burlesque troupe and she is planning to do a piece where she is Hermoine and she has recruited me to perform as Snape. Might as well get the wig now.

Can't wait...

Here's another HP good article. (http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/article/0,28804,1637886_1637891,00.html)

But, but...I like Harry! <Sniffles>

I do admit to a faint hope that Snape turns out to be a double agent or something, so he can turn out to be a good guy at the end. Not likely, I realize, but I can hope for a few more days.

Of course!! The kidlets and I will be there with bells on. We don't usually dress up, but we try to get stick-on lightning-bolt tattoos on our foreheads before we depart with the latest tome.

Might as well get the wig now.

Definitely get the wig!

Snape is quite the enigma; I suspect JKR still has surprises in store for us regarding his past; after all, Dumbledore never disavowed his importance, not dissimilar to Gandalf's feelings for Gollum's role.

I also just hate to think that Dumbledore was so badly and utterly duped. And that his inclination to look for the best in people could have backfired so horribly. It's all very dispiriting.

My long-held theory is that Snape was sweet on Harry's mother and was thus doubly embittered toward James Potter and by proxy, James's son. There's actually a fair amount of textual support for the theory, but there's probably just as much support for any number of other theories that may turn out to be dead wrong.

Dumbledore's death was one of the most depressing incidents in the stories (other than Sirius' death which simply crushed my hopes for a happy 'Harry-has-a-father-figure-yay!' moment). Suddenly Dumbledore wasn't just fallible; if Snape really is bad, then Dumbledore was clearly a bad judge of character. Which makes everything Dumbledore has done suspect, or at least to be taken with a grain of salt. It certainly makes you reevaluate a lot of what he's done or neglected to do. Someday I will actually research it and read all the books again. Someday... *dreamy far-off look*

I don't think his death meant that Dumbledore was fallible; he seemed to plan his own demise as he may have known that his sacrifice would be necessary to further the cause of the resistance. I think he was passing the torch to Harry and his friends of necessity due to a foresight we have not been let in on. He would not have endangered himself re: the poison. I see it as an Obi Wan Kenobi moment rather than a miscalculation on his part. I may be justifying my wholehearted belief that he was correct in placing such heavy trust in Snape. I have a bumper sticker that says "Snape is Good," and I shan't be swayed.

Precisely, a definite Obi Wan moment, the impact of which should play a significant role in Harry's actions in the coming book. I'm don't know that I can go as far as believing Snape is good, but my hope is that Dumbledore was prescient enough to see Snape as having a pivotal impact in the story's resolution. We'll see soon enough!!!;) Hope you all are having a great day (I know I am; Cubs beat Brewers on a walk-off homer!!)
