My 1 year old son Aiden took his first steps tonight, from doorway to me, a staggering distance of about 3 feet!!!!

Sooo exciting! I've watched my nephews grow up and...well, have fun! Time to put all the breakables on the top shelves! ;)
Seriously, though, what a great age! It'll be tons of fun!

Yep--and lots of other babyproofing, too. I wish I had a dime for every piece of baby-proofing equipment I've bought over the years--baby gates, potty locks, cabinet locks, plug-stoppers--the whole nine yards.
I look at all the safety stuff available for new parents nowdays and wonder how any of us 40ish and up folks ever made it to kindergarten. Heck, I rode home from the hospital in my mom's lap, and sat in a baby seat between my mom and dad in the front seat until I was around three. At that point, I moved to the back and was allowed to skooch, roll and bounce all over the back seat and floor board at will. I only recall wearing the lap-belt in bad traffic. 'Tis weird.

Funny you should mention Potty Locks.........he just both the seat and the lid on his hand today (fortunately it was made of light material and just scared him).
Also, he head-bonks, meaning he cracks you with his head.. He hit me just right and gave me a fat lip.
Oh, the fun to come!
Thanks for sharing in my excitement!

Po little teekie! :..( I'm glad it was just a scary thing, and not a mashed finger.
BTW--potty locks are good things to have. Toddlin' folk have such large heads in proportion to their little bodies that they can't get out of a container of water if they happen to land head-down into it--their center of gravity isn't in the right place for them to do that easily. So toilets and even water buckets can be dangerous for the toddler/preschool crowd.

One of the neighborhood kids was a head-bonker. She once leaned over and reared right back into her grandmother's nose, and the results were not pretty. Eeek.
