Hi! I'm a huge fan of Laurie R. King, and I am so glad I finally made my way over here. I started reading her about a year ago, I think. The director of our library turned me onto her, and I've been hooked on her ever since! I only read the Russell/Holmes stories, though. I have yet to experience the other ones. I'm sure they're good, but I just am not ready yet.

Hi, Lady Natalie and welcome to the VBC!

If your LRK experience is confined to the Russells, you have some great reading ahead of you! I read through all the Russells before I picked up the first entry in the Martinelli series--A Grave Talent (this month's VBC discussion book). The narrative voice was so completely different from that of the Russells--so self-assuredly contemporary--that I flipped back to the cover a couple of times to make sure I had the right book. Not many writers can sustain such different voices so consistently and so well.

It's good to have you here, Lady N. I hope to see you a lot around the VBC.

Hey, thanks! I'll have to check her out...I wasn't sure I'd be interested or not, but how do I know until I've tried?

Here you go, Lady N.--the first four chapters (http://laurierking.com/pdf/A%20Grave%20Talent.pdf) of A Grave Talent, the first Kate Martinelli book (from the AGT page of LRK's website). When you get a chance, give it a test run.
