Bouchercon 2007 (http://www.bouchercon2007.com/) is coming up this September 27-30 in Anchorage, and it would be a great opporunity for a VBC meet-up, if some of us are planning to go. If you're thinking about attending, post here so we can start a head-count and maybe plan a get-together.

If you haven't been to a Bouchercon before, it is a huge, huge event in the mystery world, with great panels, lots of book-signing opportunities and household-name authors poring over the book-dealer offerings right alongside dedicated fans, booksellers and publishing world denizens. Everyone there loves and supports the genre, which gives the event a very cool sense of solidarity and purpose. If you're a big mystery fan, you really should try to go at least once.

The special guest of honor is Diana Gabaldon, of Outlander fame--she's been mentioned here in the VBC, and the American guest of honor is Thomas Perry (I loooved his book, Metzger's Dog). For more info, see the Bouchercon 2007 site (http://www.bouchercon2007.com/).

Vicki - In another thread, I haven't a clue right now which one, you mentioned the locations of the 2008 and 2009 Bouchercon. I haven't been able to confirm those locations at any other site. How firm is Baltimore for 2008? I have a number of Internet friends who live in the area and when I mentioned it they were ready to start making plans for a gathering of our group from around the States. I told them I would try to lock down the location and if possible the dates. Can you send me to a site that has this information?

I live in suburban Washington, DC, so that Baltimore is way more convenient than either Anchorage or Indiannapolis, I've put this on my calendar. How early do I need to make hotel reservations?

Laurie King related event would be wonderful.

I've registered and I have the hotel booked. Still need to get the flight booked though. I'm trying to figure out how much time I'll need before Bcon for sightseeing.

Looks like I have yet another reason to save even more money. Ugh. Why does college have to be soooo difficult on the finances? Oh well; I shall hopefully someday save enough money to actually come to one of these things! Cross your fingers, folks!

Have fun y'all who are going, and I will remind you when you get back to spill the details!

Hi, nycphoto! Yay--we have a head-count started! Have you started looking at flights? I looked at a few that seemed sort of pricey, but I haven't looked at the discount sites yet.

Thanks for posting the correct '08 site, Annie! I love that logo they've done. I'll definitely try to get to Baltimore for that. It sounds like we're already have the beginnings of a get-together at B'con '08--cool!

As for this year's B'con, I've been checking on Anchorage weather, and it's not anywhere near as cold as I thought it would be (I'm not a cold weather person, to say the very least). It turns out that Anchorage weather is pretty mild most of the year--lookee (http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/monthly/graph/USAK0012?from=36hr_bottomnav_undeclared). So I'm looking at fares to see what kind of flight deal I can find.

Hi, alina and John -- the new avatar pics are great!

Hi, alina and John -- the new avatar pics are great!

Thanks tons! I get really bored with my avatars really easily, so you'll probably see new ones at least twice a month or so! Oh, I really do need to work on lengthening my attention span...

Hi,

I'll be in Anchorage and would love to join in the fun. Just let me know when and where. I've been reading LRK for too many years to count and have enjoyed her series and standalones.

Hi, Carolyn! I'm glad you're going to be there--I'm also aiming to attend (budget permitting), so I hope to see you at the meet-up!

The airfares look a tad pricey--were you able to get a good deal on your fare?

I attended BCon 06 in Madison and had so much fun it practically was illegal. If you look back on Laurie's blog around Oct 06 you will see various burbles from me. You get to see, have books signed by, and run into All Kinds of writers whose work you have respected for years; it's amazing. (Laurie is the best, of course, we are not biased around here, cough.) Here's the fan tip, to be amended by anyone with better info: make an early plan for Friday dinner. The Published Ones go off to organized dinners thrown by publishers. But there are plenty of affable fans around. Alas, BCon this year collided with some family responsiblities. But I was Born in Baltimore, for crying out loud, and intend to get there for sure. -- Meredith

My husband and I will be at Bouchercon and look forward to seeing Laurie. Be it drinks or breakfast, we do both so we'll see you.

Okay, we're getting close to B'Con and need to make plans for the VBC get-together. So far, I have down nycphoto, Carolyn, SaraB and Mr. SaraB, in addition to LRK and yours truly. I'll email all of you to start making plans.

Any other folks I need to include on the planning? If so, post here or just email me--the more, the merrier! :)
