I've just returned from a cruise to Alaska where our last stop was in the town of Victoria on Vancouver Island. My DH and I took a bus to the Butchart Gardens and had tea there after walking the glorious gardens for several hours. During that time I was obsessed with taking pictures of bees on the flowers. These are the two best, the first is a stingerless bee, as best I can discover, and the second is a honeybee.

Thanks for the pix, Alice! They are lovely. Those are beautiful gardens, aren't they? Thanks, Karen. Yes, extraordinary!! We were there on a beautiful day with temps in the high 70s. Everything was in full bloom, and so colorful it almost hurt your eyes. The begonias were the size of saucers, I've never seen them that big.

They are gorgeous, Alice. My parents went to the Butchart Gardens when I was about 10 and I've wanted to go ever since. Isn't it amazing how different bees can be? And how beautiful.

I'm attaching some more pictures from the garden and one more of a bee. I really was on a tear to capture the little creatures, they just don't want to stay still for very long.

What an amazing display of color, they are great pictures, and I really liked the fountain of the fish. Even in a static picture it portrays such fluid movement. I really like looking at bees and have never been to worried in their presence but that stinger less bee would probably worry me just by its similarity to wasps which are always happy to sting and run. Thanks for sharing.
