Hello everyone! I am very happy that I've joined this virtual book club. I could never get in to reading much, but that was until I discovered LRK! :) I must admit though, I have yet to read a Mary Russell book, but I can't wait to get my hands on them. I have read her Kate Martinelli series and I fell in love. I lived in the Bay Area for almost 10 years and now in NH, but I feel like I am back when I read her books. I am looking forward to meeting so many new people on here. Good day all!

Hi, glennag and welcome to the VBC!
The Martinellis are wonderful, aren't they? I'm looking forward to discussing To Play the Fool, which is one of my favorite LRKs.

Here's a nice head-start: the first two chapters of The Beekeeper's Apprentice (http://laurierking.com/pdf/Beekeeper.pdf) (from the BEEK page on LRK's site), for your sampling enjoyment. You are in for quite a treat. Just remember, going in, that they are very different from the Martinellis--it's amazing to me that an author can sustain two such different voices, and do it so well.
When you get a chance, drop by the Hospitality Suite (http://laurierking.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=741#post741)to say hi to the gang. And do a little thread-exploring. There are a lot of fun conversations you may want to dip your toe into.
I look forward to seeing you around the VBC!

Hi " from NH" -I i am on the other side - I have read all of the Mary Russell books, but have yet to read a Kate Martinelli book- maybe someone in this forum or VBC can convince me it's time to do that! I guess I liked the English( British) flavor of the MR\SH books, but found the notion of Kate verry American, no offense I just prefer the English lit.

<Activates tractor beam> Here's a nice long excerpt (http://laurierking.com/pdf/A%20Grave%20Talent.pdf) of the first Kate Martinelli--A Grave Talent (http://laurierking.com/grave_talent.php). :D
