Yesterday (Sunday) we finally got a bit of a break in the almost unbroken drippiness and dreariness with which October has graced us, so DW and I headed over to the Morton Arboretum (along w/ what seemed like a large chunk of the metropolitan Chicago area population) to bask in the glory of the autumn foliage before the winds and rain strip the trees bare! This year's moderate summer temps left us with a dearth of red and orange but there was just enough to contrast with the myriad shades of gold and brown. The attached photos hardly do nature justice, but so ist das leben! Enjoy!

Not to mention the QLD girl Well, shouldn't you be basking in lovely spring blooms now? :D

Beautiful, John! Thank you for sharing yet again!

Thank you, Alice, Pat, Millie, and Karen. Autumn is my favorite season of the year, with its ephemeral beauty and cool temps!

Sighhhhhhh. Oh man, John, you got me with these. This is my favorite time of year, and I'm a total sucker for the Fall foliage. Just gorgeous. Thank you.

Our trees are turning and some are already beautiful, but we've had a lot of rain this year and that tends to produce a less spectacular foliage. We'll see.

More fantastic photos! John, you rock, and so does the Morton Arboretum :D:D

Thanks for posting - they-re just wonderful. Autumn here has been very mild and mostly dry, so we're not seeing much spectacular colour; everything just seems to be brown. These photos, however, are wonderful.

Thank you John! Great work and looks like a really fun day for both you and your DW...

Took a trip via train over the Sierras and tried some shots but won't be able to tell until I read the book about "downloading from camera to computer" - have an "auto focus" sony so hopefully the fact that I can't really see what I'm shooting won't be a problem... :D:D:D

If I can figure out the technology and (big AND here) anything's worth showing I'll post them after we get home... I don't think I'll be nearly as good as you so "chief photographer" thanks for the inspiration! :)

Thank you, Linda and aibrean and Donna; I'm glad that you enjoyed them.

Donna, the train trip through the mountains sounds like a wonderful trip; hope your pics turn out nice but the most precious ones will always be the ones in your memory.

John.
