I know that this is not a sports forum, but dd and I had a chance to attend the world cup for speed skating at the Olympic oval on Friday the 11th,and having taken pictures I thought that some of you might like to see them.

Not having a super speedy camera there are no photos of them actually racing, usually the cool down and the award presentation is represented and some shots of the oval itself and a couple of the Olympic mascots.

There was a world record set by the Shani Davis in the men 1500m, I have those pictures of that as well.

Very cool! Thanks for sharing. And in a couple of months we'll be watching events in Vancouver! Can't wait!...

Thanks for the terrific pics! I'm a big speed-skating fan and the Olympic events should be exciting as usual. That's our boy, Shani Davis from Chicago!!

Great photos, John :). Winter sports are a non-event here, although they do have ski-ing etc down south. Consequently, Australians in general don't get too excited about winter sports, which is a shame as they're very cool. The only Australian winter athlete any of us remember is Steven Bradbury, who won some speed-skating event or other...when everyone else fell over :D

I'm looking forward to the winter Olympics too.

Sorry, 2bnallegory, I've lost the plot! In my defence, can I say that I'm hosting a sleepover and it's all going pear-shaped...my niece wants to go home and my SIL won't let her because their boys are at a cricket camp and B and SIL are enjoying child-free time. So it's all a bit crazy here. But they are still excellent photos!

Millie, you are brave beyond all required parental duties :D:D:D Hope the kids (and you) have a really great time even if 1 is in that corner reading, 5 are over there watching a movie, 3 are just talking and the dogs are helping you keep the peace! (Or something like that...) Hope the kids like the food (that always works doesn't it?) and the "sleep" part of "sleep-over" isn't too far off... *** grin *** and I'll loan you a whistle if you need it. :D:D:D Let us know how it all turns out! Happy Christmas down under. :)

Not a problem, I honor your heroic event, sleepovers, yikes. Hope things went well.

I am glad that the photos are at least decent as it is hard to shoot moving targets with the telephoto lens extended. I am also glad that you are enjoying them!
