Here are a some photos of our area after a few days of the "white death" or fog that rolls into our valleys in the winter dropping the temperature and covering anything that stays still with frozen condensation. Although it is dreary and very cold, the ice is still pretty and makes everything sparkle, or would sparkle if there were sun light:rolleyes:.

Thank you for these beautiful photos. Nashville having missed the east coast snow, I was just wishing for some snow photos. We don't get much snow in Nashville, but on the Interstate I used to take to work, there was about a half mile near a creek where fog would often clothe the trees in white on early mornings in winter.

Very beautiful; nothing like fresh snow! The mountains look great, also; I do miss them here in our Prairie State!

Hello all, I am being rather loquacious but there is so little going on here I can't help myself. I can't feel that you are all riveted by my pictures but it is something new to look at.

Since last set of pictures were taken we got a few inches of powder and dispelled the fog, so this morning when the sun burst over the mountain, I took pictures of the same areas.

Thanks for more great pictures. Is one of the houses yours?

As I am shooting in front of my house the pictures are all of my neighbors, although the garden is mine, with the terraces.

I was thinking about your pictures today. We were on our drive south and Virginia had had fog and very cold temperatures and had the same beautiful frosty ice all over the trees. It was absolutely breathtaking at dawn.

2bnallegory, your pictures remind me of the years my DS and I would go to Park City to visit friends in December. The snow is remarkable and my DS loved to snowboard with his buddies in that world renowned powder. I stayed inside with a cup of tea and a good book. To each his own. Snow is lovely to visit, but I'm happy to live where I don't have to deal with it. Thanks for the lovely reminder of a special time, though.

Thanks so much! They are amazing photos. I can't even imagine living in those conditions, and I find it a bit scary (the driving! how do you do it???) but it's so hot and humid here that I'm really jealous!

Park City is about 40 minutes from where we live and were we inclined to winter sports it would be a simple matter of going there or one of the other numerous ski resorts. My dh is from Southern California and not much inclined to approve this frozen rain piling up all over and the most daring thing he will go out for is sledding, and hasn't been overjoyed with the cold, wet experience. While I have grown up around snow conditions, I see it as pointless to work your way up a mountain and hurtling down on slippery bits of composite material, or more likely, sliding down on face and/or rear and becoming wet, cold and bruised, yes I have tried, forced to try, to ski.
I am more inclined to do as you, Alice, and watch happily those antics from a comfortable chair and sip something hot.

I think it must be a matter of growing up in your environment, but the newscasters here about like to give out driving advice, and amongst all others, always included is to just slow down. I remember our summers in South Australia and although not humid, it is plenty hot! But the great part was that one could order all the summer clothes on sale when you needed them.

I have let hollyhocks go as they please and some echinacea flowers in various colors, with blanket flowers and a few others I have forgotten about. Mostly I chose low maintenance somewhat xeric perennials. Plus two gooseberry bushes I make jam from, a cherry tree, and several other bushes. I shall try to remember to get some pictures this summer.
