Greetings all,
After much putting-off, I finally registered and am looking forward to some stimulating exchange of ideas and opinions.
Cheers!

Hi, JaC000 and welcome to the VBC!
When you get a chance, explore some of the fun threads around here. The monthly discussion (it's BEEK this month) with LRK is going on here (http://laurierking.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=564#post564) in the Club Room area, and we're always looking for recommendations in the Beloved Bookshelf (http://laurierking.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=28) and movie-cabinet (http://laurierking.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=31) threads in the Great Room area. You might have some Australian book or movie recommendations that are new to the others here. I'm crazy about several YA authors from Down Under--Garth Nix (who is not only a terrific writer but also is an incredibly nice guy), Jaclyn Moriarty, Margaret Mahy (from N.Z.-- loooved her book, The Changeover) and Juliet Marillier. I also read some of Isobel Carmody's dystopian series and enjoyed it a lot. And new author or book recommendations are always welcome.
I look forward to seeing you around the VBC!

Hi, Jancron! Wow--y'all can be the founding members of the VBC's Melbourne Chapter. Cool!
Is LRK's stuff easy to find in Australia? Sometimes it's hard to find books from another English-speaking country. Several UK books I've looked for either never came out in the USA at all, or came out years after the UK debut. :( I hope you don't have too much trouble getting copies of LRK's books.

Cool--your own personal biblio-supplier! I could use one of those, myself. I'm glad LRK's stuff has become easier to find in Australia these days. It's very frustrating to be stuck without an existing book or two in a series. Speaking of which, my copy of HPVII is sitting in a warehouse somewhere at this very minute--waaah!

I'm awaiting eagerly the new HP myself. When the first one came out in the States, I was working in Waldenbooks. We priviliged booksellers were sent special copies of the first chapter before it came out. I still have mine. :-D

Whoa--that's cool! I'd love to even see half of chapter one of the upcoming HP. Hang onto that chapter--I bet it's going to increase quite a bit in value over the years.
