A couple of years ago I posted some photos from an art glass exhibit by Dale Chihuly at the Garfield Park Conservatory in Chicago. While we were in Columbus, Ohio over the holidays we discovered a new Chihuly exhibition displayed at the Franklin Park Conservatory, with a smaller exhibit at the Columbus Museum of Art. I managed to snap some shots at both exhibits, and the photos in this post are from the conservatory. I will try to post some photos from the art museum later. Hope you enjoy!

Very, very cool. They are so organic and yet so alien at the same time.

John,

Thank you so much for these. I love Chihuly's work. What a riot of color and form. If I ever won the lottery, this is the kind of thing that my money would be spent on!

John, your photographs are amazing! This brought back some great memories. I had the pleasure of viewing a Chihuly exhibit at Pepperdine University years ago and the combination of that gorgeous campus, the exhibit, spectacular weather and good friends made for a memorable day.

John, these are absolutely beautiful. I like them even better than those at Garfield Park. Your photographs produce such a riot of color that we get a unique perspective on the work. If I win the lottery (Oh dear! I suppose I have to enter to win), I want the one on the far right in the first row or anything from the next to last row. thank you, John.

Beautiful pictures, Elizabeth! The glass artist is Hans Godo Fräbel, and it looks like the art fits right into the environment!! Thanks for sharing!

Yes, I knew about the artist, I just didn't put his name on. I'm one of those people who goes around and reads all the little signs on artwork or exhibits in museums... it certainly makes a thorough exploration of a museum take weeks!

I can certainly appreciate that, Elizabeth, being a museum junkie myself:)!

As promised ( or threatened:)) here are some more photos of Chihuly glass, this time taken at the exhibit at the Columbus Museum of Art. Apparently, he is a big collector of Native American basketry and blankets, and was inspired to create some pieces with that influence (the pieces interspersed among the baskets). Enjoy!

I really like the Native American-inspired work. John, I also like the art you have created by the angles you have chosen and the way you have framed your photographs in rows 4 and 5.

The first work by glass artists I remember seeing was in a book of creations made for an anniversary of kristallnacht. I was surprised at the beauty artists could create out of such horror, but I pray the world will opt for gardens, conservatories, and museums, such lovely venues for art.

John, they are wonderful photos and either your depiction or the display itself has an oceanic feel, like walking along the ocean floor. Just wouldn't care to be around during an earthquake:rolleyes:

Elizabeth, it is amazing how different glass can be as a medium. That display has a fun feel to it and to make glass so geometric in that cube display is amazing. I especially like the frogs and lizards.

What amazing photos! Philistine that I am, I'd never heard of either artist. I'll be coming back to these photos again, I think.

Don't feel ignorant, Millie; I would wager that the majority of Americans wouldn't recognize the names either! Glad you enjoyed the pics:)!!

Chiluly did a massive sculpture for the Bellago Casino (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/1433376870077019048JGOYOt) in Los Vegas. If you get a chance go in and see the thing, it is quite impressive.

The lizards and the frogs are my favorites too! I was thinking of buying some replicas at the gift shop, but I'm skint broke.

John, you have a real eye for photography! Thank you so much for sharing!
