We got about 19 inches of snow on Friday night, and woke up to this winter wonderland. I've heard it compared to Austria, among other things...:D

Beautiful pictures, Liz. Is the cat Mary Russell?

Wow! You are starting to look like Big Bear! We had just another couple of inches last PM - just enough to freshen everything up. You have a beautiful setting in which you live - twin lamp posts, lots of trees. ***grin*** and a cat that is wondering what happened to her outside. Our squirrels have a game; if they bounce on just the right branch with just enough snow piled on the end at just the right moment - a dog, cat, human or other unwitting critter walking underneath - they can score a direct hit. Watch for it. You may have a similar trait among your own population. Just watch out where you are walking... ***grin***. Thanks for sharing, Liz. :)

Yep, that's Russell. Poor things getting cabin fever. But she hates the snow, and she'd suffocate if she went in to; it's over her head!

No school today! We're supposed to get more snow tomorrow, so we might not have school this week. We're making do with our own "school". I'm lecturing on Biblical poetry, my sister's teaching about Arabic, and the youngest is lecturing on cell biology. Then phys ed. Then movies. Dang! We could run a very nice college!

Quite an eclectic group of courses you've got there! Where are the course enrollment forms? :D

Awesome pictures! I particularly like the one with the patio furniture. I can honestly say I've never seen that much snow before :p

How old is "the youngest"? That's pretty awesome, though:) What kind of phys ed is appropriate for a snow day? Wii tennis? ;)

The youngest is 11. We tend to teach ourselves things outside of our classes. The middle is 13, and she's wonderful at teaching herself languages. Me, I just read a lecture on the parrallism forms of biblical poetry and their interpretation, so I did some extra research and drilled las hermanas minor.

I've said this before, but dinner tends to be rather interesting.

(We did infact do Wii, but then we did ab training.)

Love your "college". PE? There's Snow-shoeing 101 (Bear Claw ed.), Nordic Skiing - we could go straight to Skate if everyone is up for it, and of course the "Art of War", or snowball "fights" - games?... which includes building a fort but usually turns into creating snow people or critters... ***grin***

And don't forget "cooking" - there's snowcones, ice creams, sorbets...

When can we all come over? ***grin*** Have fun you all! And if you still need an aerobic class, just get that crew out of the gym, hand out shovels and clear the walkways and drives of all the senior citizens in town - or anyone else in need of strong, young high-schoolers in search of a "fun" alternative work-out... ***grin***

Liz, what biblical poetry do you especially like?

We focussed on a few Psalms (Psalm 104 mostly) and the song of Deborah (Judges 5).

Donna: Our coaches are mad, since we really don't have much practice this week. So yes, we've been out shoveling mucho. And then extensive yoga afterwards for my shoulders! :D

Liz, these are two of my favorites. I think the Song of Deborah compares favorably with other ancient epics, and I like the fact that women have prominent roles. Isaiah 55 is another passage I really like.

I especially enjoy the fact that Deborah was both a "Judge" in the leader and judicial terms, but also a general and a great military strategist. Although I must say that Judges is like a superhero comic in its repetitiveness of plot. It does drive home the fact of the people's fickleness, though.

It might be interesting to contemplate the fact that, in Hebrew, Deborah (d'vorah) is a bee. A bee acts communally. A bee has a stinger. A queen bee can lead a swarm. And besides, everyone on this forum likes bees.

Interesting facts, Lenore.
