My name's Vicki, and I've been lurking for a bit, so I figured I'd say hello!
I'd been a Sherlock Holmes fan for a long time, but only recently renewed my interest, rereading the canon, and discovering the Sherlockian fan community, which is where I found out about Mary Russell...I got curious and went to the library, and now I've read all but Justice Hall, which I'm reserving as soon as I can. I absolutely love the stories...at the moment, I'd say Locked Rooms is my favourite, but they're all wonderful! I particularly love it when Russell and Holmes are together, because it's largely an equal partnership from which both partners can learn a great deal!
Let's see...what else can I tell you...I sing soprano with the local symphony chorus as well as at my church as part of the worship team. I also do all kinds of artsy things, and I'm an avid Star Trek and anime fan, and I have lots of fun making my own costumes and wearing them to conventions! I'm also a dog lover...I've got three of them!
I notice I know a few members here from Holmesian.net...and I hope to meet more of you too!

Hi there from another Vicki, and welcome to the VBC! Our spotlight discussion this month (http://laurierking.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=63)is The Beekeeper's Apprentice, and we're doing A Monstrous Regiment of Women next month, so make sure explore the Club Room area (http://laurierking.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=3) of the forum. There are also lots of other fun discussions in the LRK Reading Room (http://laurierking.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=4) and the Great Room (http://laurierking.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=4), so explore the place when you get a chance!
A dear friend of mine is a soprano who does a lot of singing in church and community productions. We roomed in college, where she met her husband, who is also a singer, and they were both in the college Concert Choir together. They did their senior recital together and it was amazing.
I envy you your sewing ability. I nearly flunked home ec because I made a disaster out of a two-piece skirt pattern, no joke. :o What kind of costumes have you made (asks the fellow Star Trek fan)?

Vicki - I can so relate! I couldn't make a wrap-around skirt in home ec! Only my cooking saved me! BTW, wasn't it you I offered tomatoes to? They are coming in so if you can figure out how I can ship them, you can have some of the best tomatoes in the world!
Victoria - I so envy you your singing ability! I love to sing, but nobody loves to hear me! If I could pick one talent out that would be it. Go and make a joyful noise for me!

Thanks for the lovely welcome! Actually, my sewing ability is something I've only developed in recent times...never took home ec, though I did watch my grandma sew when I was a kid...I had some good friends teach me the basics, then I struggled on my own reading patterns and improvising...I've made a Star Trek uniform, of course...Next Generation dress uniform in blue to be specific, and anime costumes from Fruits Basket, Inuyasha and Dai-Guard. A few months ago I actually made a variation of an original series Star Trek mirror universe costume for a friend, and I'm currently working on another Star Trek costume for her... If all goes well, I'll probably make myself a Sherlock Holmes costume for Halloween [which is incidentally, my birthday]...:D [Though I'll be completely dressing opposite my type...but that's part of the fun!]

I'll try and make enough noise for all of us! ;) :D
Keep singing!

Cool costume and cool birthday!

I like the TNG uniforms, especially Picard's dress one with the long top--that was cool. I have a soft spot for the classic outfits, though. I read that they used to put Shatner in that top that looked like a wrap-around when he got to the top of his weight range, as they deemphasized his belly. I guess it worked on the same principle as the VonFurstenburg wrap-around dresses, which really do look good on a bunch of different figure-types.

I love that episode! Maybe you can post some pictures of some of your creations. I'm going to start a gallery soon where we can gather our photos.

I think Star Trek brings people together. My husband is always shy meeting old friends/family of mine for the first time, except for my friend Stephanie because he saw a halloween picture of her in a Star Trek costume and decided they had something in common :)

Okay--let me surf over to my administrative control panel and see what I can cook up.
I have a couple of pictures from 2maple I've been needing to post--they're very impressive--some scary "God talking to Charlton Heston" storm clouds over Maine, so I'll experiment with getting those posted. Whee!
