Karen, thanks for the Charlaine Harris link. I read about her dogs as well as the book reviews.

Pat - she was really fun to listen to at B'con in Baltimore. I'm hoping she'll come to SF. One of the best panels was with her, Laurie, Val McDermitt and someone else I can't remember who all just embarrassed the moderator to bits. It was highly entertaining!

WE DON'T NEED ANOTHER HERO (Tina Turner) Is the protagonist a hero on a quest for Justice, Truth, and The Restoration of Order or just another slob getting the job done? Declan Hughes(M), Charlaine Harris, Laurie King, Val McDermid, S.J. Rozan
Karen, I still had the link to the panels and you are so right, Charlaine was a hoot, and Laurie and Val along with Charlaine and S.J. just about undid poor Declan, a young British gentleman (or was he Irish? but he was a gentleman) they had blushing and speechless. He lost control of the panel members almost from the getgo.

That's right! He is Irish - I remember the accent - and I thought he was going to crawl under the table and hide!

Big Bear Brevity
Thank you Curls.
By the way - I loved your "earthquake" story. I'm very impressed with the great parenting you and your husband exhibited - your son may have been scared but he didn't panic because of what Mom and Dad told him to do... Very excellent!!! I wish I could be as effective with some of my students - whatever the lesson. ***grin*** Nice job. (Not to mention surviving a slippery shower - a very good day for you and your family despite the frightening circumstances!)

Thanks, Donna. My dh and I believe information equals power. We live in earthquake country, so we began talking about what it was and what to do from a very young age. Knowledge is power, and it can save your life and avoid panic. Pretending a fact is too scary, or too complicated to discuss with a child just makes that fact scary and a mystery to a child. Ignorance is terrifying.
